Adair Park Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia is known for its diverse neighborhoods. From historical residential communities to trendy urban living, Atlanta is a city that addresses the lifestyle options of many. Adair Park is one of Atlanta’s communities that presents a distinctive set of charms, including historic residential architecture, neighborhood merchants housed in brick buildings and a relaxing community park. This picturesque historical district dates back to the latter half of the 19th century, when the city of Atlanta was beginning to show signs of evolving into much more than a railroad hub. Just after the Civil War, a group of land investors saw signs of future growth and began to purchase large sections of land. One of these investors was George Washington Adair. Adair formed two companies to increase the value of his investment; Atlanta Street Railway Company provided trolley access and Atlanta Real Estate Company continued to purchase and develop Atlanta property. The Adair Park subdivision, located just 10 minutes southwest of downtown, was designed and sold in lots to residential buyers just after the turn of the century. Today, the community still very much represents the era of its development. Properties are characterized by mature landscaping and varied architectural styles, including Craftsman, Queen Anne, Gothic Revival and Folk Victorian. The neighborhoods associated with the Adair Park district are: Capital Homes, McDaniel Glen, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, Pittsburgh and Summerhill.
